New Tool for Facebook Fundraising
by Jessica High
There has been a lot of discussion over how effective Facebook’s Causes application is for charities. The low numbers of actual contributions has been the critics’ main argument against Causes. Leading fundraising professionals still say that the point is not the total dollar amount but that it gives fundraisers another tool to promote their organization and share their story. Enter into the scene: Boundless Fundraising. This new fundraising application for Facebook is hoping to put to rest all the critics. Within the first six months of its launch, the 36 groups that use the application have raised a combined $2.5 million. These numbers are worth noticing. Donna Wilkins, President of Charity Dynamics, explains the application: “Boundless Fundraising application sends a newsfeed that all your Facebook friends see with just a couple of clicks. For most participants this means more friends are hearing about their participation and fundraising. […] We’re also seeing that participants are now becoming multi-channel marketers and they’re asking for support both in email and on Facebook. In some analysis you can see where a donor made a gift both in response to an email and through Boundless Fundraising.” This means that not only is this fundraising tool giving donors another option for giving, but it is also finding new donors. In economic times, expanding your donor base is critical. Remember, this application on Facebook is not the only fundraising option.
