Economy to Hit Non-Profit Healthcare Industry Hard
by Ashley High A new study by the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy suggests that since the economy is still faltering, charitable donations will decrease this year and greatly affect the healthcare industry. Almost half of non-profit hospitals and healthcare institutions are expecting decreased donations, averaging about 17% overall.
Because of this decrease in giving, 40% of non-profit healthcare providers said they would cut their operating budget – averaging about 12% - and 63% will host fewer high-class fundraisers and galas.
However, non-profit hospitals said they will not cut back their charitable care and services. In order to make up their expected budget deficit, most said they would reduce their spending on construction and equipment; only 8% indicated that they would have to cut their charity care spending.
