How to Use Facebook
by Jessica High Facebook is a powerful social media tool. It is helpful though to have real-life examples of what works and what does not. Allison Fine, who is involved in communications and non-profit leadership, has posted her most recent episode on using social media with the Chronicle of Philanthropy. The 15 minute session is focused on Facebook. She interviews the man who helped start the “Causes” application on Facebook that many nonprofits are using to promote their organization. She also talks with another director of a humanitarian group about how they use Facebook. If you need basic information, this session will be very helpful. You can visit http://philanthropy.com/media/audio/socialgood/ to listen to the audio of this discussion. Allison’s previous sessions are also posted on this page. You can listen to: “Philanthropy in Virtual Worlds”, “Newspapers, Nonprofits, and Social Media”, “Communicating With Volunteers Online”, “NPR’s Social-Media Strategy”, “Using Text Messaging to Raise Money”, “Building a Network That Works”, and “Turning Online Friends Into Funders”.
